At ALC Health, part of the Assistenza Healthcare family, we believe that exceptional care begins with exceptional knowledge and compassion. That’s why we’re thrilled to share a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). As of February 2025, over 50% of our dedicated team has earned certification as Dementia Practitioners through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP). This achievement reflects our unwavering dedication to providing world-class care to those we serve across Chicago and beyond.
A Step Above for Dementia Care
Our certification program goes beyond meeting the requirements of Illinois Public Act 100-1074, which mandates comprehensive training for staff working with AD/ADRD patients. While the Act sets a strong foundation for initial and ongoing education, we’ve taken it a step further by partnering with the NCCDP to ensure our team is equipped with the latest tools, techniques, and empathy needed to make a real difference in the lives of our patients.
Anthony Siciliano, our Founder and CEO, sums it up best:
“Our commitment to providing world-class care extends to ensuring our team is equipped with the knowledge and empathy necessary to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. By partnering with the National Council for Certified Dementia Care Practitioners, we are actively leading the charge in transforming dementia care in Illinois.”
What This Means for Our Patients and Families
So, what does this certification mean for the individuals and families who trust us with their care? It’s more than just a credential, it’s a promise. Our certified team members have undergone rigorous training in key areas, including:
- Understanding Dementia: Gaining deep insight into the nature and progression of dementia to better anticipate and meet patient needs.
- Effective Communication: Mastering techniques to connect with individuals experiencing cognitive decline, fostering trust and understanding.
- Daily Living Assistance: Supporting patients with activities of daily living in a way that preserves their dignity and independence.
- Behavioral Management: Addressing challenging behaviors with patience and proven strategies to reduce stress for both patients and caregivers.
- Safety and Environment: Creating safe, supportive spaces tailored to the unique needs of those with dementia.
This comprehensive approach ensures that our team isn’t just meeting standards—they’re setting them.
A Team Effort Led by Passion
We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the incredible work of Rachelle Blough, our Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer. Rachelle’s expertise and passion for improving dementia care have been instrumental in educating and certifying over half of our team. Her leadership has empowered us to deliver care that’s not only skilled but deeply compassionate, a cornerstone of the ALC experience.
